Age Limit

The competition is open to duo candidates of all nations; singers born after July 1, 1979 and pianists born after July 1, 1977.

Application

All entrants should apply using the enclosed Application Form. Please enclose the following documents with your application:

  • a photocopy of your birth certificate
  • a short curriculum vitae: musical training (place and teacher), concert experience, critiques and letters of recom­mendation if available
  • program, which can be revised until September 8th 2013. Thereafter it is not possible.
  • two recent photographs: one passportsize and the other postcard-size
  • a bank receipt showing that the Competition Fee has been paid into the Competition Account with the Dortmund Savings Bank (Sparkasse Dortmund)
    • the application form, correctly filled in
  • Please send in the application form together with the aforementioned documents to the following address:

    The direction of the competition will have the ultimate decision about admission and will send in this case the official invitation.

    The closing date for entries is: June 30, 2013 and this date will not be extended.

    In deciding whether an entry is late or not the date of the postmark shall be considered as the date when the entry was received. Applicants who have been accepted must inform the Secretariat immediately if they are unable to take part in the Competition. In this case however, a refund of the Competition Fee is not possible for technical reasons.

    Competition Fee

    The Competition Fee of € 80.00 (eighty) per duo must be transferred “free of bank charges for the recipient” at the latest by June 30, 2013. Otherwise the entry will be considered invalid.

    The Competition

    The LiedDuo Competition consists of three separate public stages held in the Chamber Music Hall of the Orchesterzentrum NRW. The start will be September 22, 2013. Entrants who arrive late or who are not in possession of their Com­petitor’s confirmation will not be be allowed to perform.
    The registration of the participants and the order of the first audition will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2013. All songs must be performed by memory. The sequence of performance is at the participant’s decision. Alterations in the choice and order of the Lieder must be reported to the Sekretariat till September 8, 2013. All works must be sung in original language.

    The jury will decide which participants have been admitted to the following competition rounds. After each round members of the jury will be available to discuss the performances with the unsuccessful candidates. The jury will award all prizes and additional special premiums. The Jury is not obligated to award all prizes.

    Prize Winners’ Concert and Prize-Giving

    The Final Concert with the awarding of the prizes will take place on September 29, 2013, 18:00 h, in the Konzerthaus Dortmund.

    Accomodation

    The Competition Committee of the Dortmund International Schubert Competition has a limited number of private rooms available, in which competitors may practice free of charge. The candidates will be provided with free transportation between the accomodation and the place of competition. Possibilities for practicing are available during the competition period in the "Orchesterzentrum NRW", Brückstraße 47, 44135 Dortmund. Travel costs to and from Dortmund must be borne by the competitors themselves.

    Miscellaneous

    Prize-Winners may not indicate any awards other than those actually given to them. The Competition Organizers reserve the right to correct any misrepresentations by the press and if necessary to resort to legal means to do this. The Competition rules will be printed in three languages (german, english­). In cases of doubt the german version will be binding.­ The Competition Organizers have the right, without compensation to make a radio-recording, tv-, video- or film-shot and/or take photo­graphs from all competitions and from the Prize Winner’s Concert to offer it the press • to make and sell records, cd’s, tapes, videos etc. from all rounds, either complete or in part and without limit, or to assign the production or sell the material to other people.
